Someone on your network just accessed the TOR (The Onion Router) network. Although this may be completely innocent, it should be investigated.

TOR is an anonymizer. It allows you to access the Internet anonymously. It was developed by the US government in the mid-1990s. Specifically, it was originally funded by the Office of Naval Research and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

When you enter the Internet through the TOR browser, you are bounced around the world for awhile and can pop out at any of the 7000 TOR relays.

According to the TOR Wiki, its purpose is to “protect the personal privacy of its users, as well as their freedom and ability to conduct confidential communication by keeping their Internet activities from being monitored”.

Unfortunately, it is estimated that 52% of TOR traffic is for illicit purposes. It is the portal to the dark web which is the favorite haunt of drug dealers, child pornographers, sex traffickers and other scoundrels.

Sniffle makes no attempt to trace the transaction since finding a path through the TOR network is impossible.

Have a great day!
